A Wealth of experience

QA DIGITAL was formed in 1999 as a business unit of QA International, the main division of Groupe Québec Amérique, Canada's principal privately owned French-language publishing house, founded in 1974.

QA International is active on five continents and has earned a solid reputation among publishers around the world. Its major successes include The Visual Dictionary, published by Macmillan, Reader's Digest, Dohosha, Oxford and Klett, with sales exceeding five million copies worldwide; The Visual Food Encyclopedia, published by Macmillan, Éditions Fontaine, Südwest Verlag and Bertelsmann Club; and the popular So Many Ways series of animal guides. Recent projects include the development of multimedia CD-ROMs such as the The Visual Dictionary, published by SSI, Zanichelli and Standaard; The Food Lover's Encyclopedia, published by Simon & Schuster; and the creative design of several web sites.

The mission of QA International is to develop and produce editorial content built around state-of-the-art computer images for publication in print and electronic media internationally. It is a pioneer in the field of computer-generated imagery, having assembled a wealth of experience in the creation and production of striking, one-of-a-kind images.

Skills and Expertises

QA DIGITAL takes full advantage of the experience of its parent company by setting the pace in today's industry. A close, expert look at our images reveals that they are based on the skilled use of state-of-the-art tools such as, primarily, Adobe Photoshop©, Adobe Illustrator©, MetaCreations Painter©, Brice and Poser and auto-des-sys form-Z. However, the cookbook does not make the chef and the software alone can't do the job. It is our illustrators who make the difference, all of whom combine an extensive artistic background and training with years of solid experience.

Unique Image Bank

The illustrations in The Visual Dictionary, The Visual Food Encyclopedia and many other QA International books were developed entirely in-house and are now available from the QA DIGITAL image bank, which offers a truly impressive scope and variety. From exotic animals to everyday household items to scientific and medical images, nowhere else will you find such a wide selection of digital imagery. QA DIGITAL illustrations have a multitude of uses, such as in books and other publications, advertising campaigns and corporate communications, as well as multimedia and online projects.

In order to protect the uniqueness of our images, we license them for specific needs and uses, the traditional way. And since all rights to the illustrations belong exclusively to QA DIGITAL, we are easy to work with: all copyright questions are clear.

Custom Illustrations and Animations

You like our unique look but can't find the image you need? Well, stay tuned: QA DIGITAL is the only company to offer both a bank of stock illustrations and custom design services. Since QA DIGITAL has created these impressive illustrations in-house, we can easily adapt existing imagery to your needs. Many of our illustrations are vectorial, so an object can be enlarged to billboard size without compromising quality. Others are based on 2D and 3D models, so views or angles can be changed quickly because we know our images inside out. And now we're venturing into animation, beginning with clips for a major reference work on sports.

Our growing list of clients includes such prestigious firms as Young & Rubicam, Pentagram Design, Saatchi & Saatchi and BBDO West. What attracted these companies to our illustrations? There's no single answer, but all of our current clients sought visuals that were different from photographs yet as easy to use. And they were attracted by our unique look - featuring a highlighted facet of an object, by the accuracy of our execution, and by the versatility of our imagery. Two of the more exciting uses of QA DIGITAL imagery are an advertising campaign for Mazda (Japan) and a corporate identity project for Avrett, Free & Ginsberg (USA).
